The Benefits of Zoom Yoga

The word Zoom meant very little to people pre-Coronavirus. Now few people will have not heard of it – and it is one of the things that makes our lives in this strange time seem a bit more normal.

I started off with some quite negative ideas of using Zoom for my Yoga Classes. Would my students cope with the technology (being a complete technophobe myself I could feel their pain!); would they be able to see and hear me well enough to do the class; would they be able to practice yoga in their own homes; would the connections be good enough? And so on.

In all honesty the classes have gone so much better than I could have hoped. People did cope with the technology behind Zoom – even if it meant involving some younger members of the household to initially set things up! People were happy to practice in their homes – some had their dogs/children joining in and – in the lovely weather – a few took to the gardens for their Zoom practice. And after more than 3 months of Zooming classes I’ve only had one class where the connection went down and I think that was due to stormy weather and torrrential rain.

The truth of the matter is that my students are REALLY enjoying doing Yoga in the privacy of their own homes and here are some of the reasons:

  • You don’t have to travel anywhere so it is more convenient and takes less time out of your schedule
  • You can practice in the privacy and quiet of your own home
  • You can practice anonymously – no one can see you to assess how you are doing so you feel no pressure to ‘perform’
  • You can’t see other students so you can’t compare yourself to anyone else and don’t have the feeling that you’re not doing as well as others
  • When the class has finished and you are feeling lovely and relaxed you can simply chill out where you are and don’t have to travel back home
  • You get an uninterrupted view of the teacher – no having to look around that tall person just in front of you
  • You have space around you – so not likely to knock anyone over as you take your arms out to the side
  • You can set the scene just as you want – may be a few scented candles, fluffy blankets, cushions, relaxing music – simply for your pleasure
  • Its cheaper than a normal class!

So if you would like to join one of my Zoom classes – and remember the first one is absolutely free – please email me at janeshobbs@gmail.com and I will send you the link. Even if you are a techophobe like me – the technology is actually very simple so please don’t let that put you off!

It will be great to see you on screen.
